Since the full solar eclipse on August 21st, we have experienced major earth changes — earthquakes and hurricanes — and global turbulence on all levels. How are we to understand these events?  Are we on the verge of the apocalypse?  Is this the end of the world?  What does it all mean?
The gift of astrology is that it guides us in understanding the deeper meaning of the energies and events that we are experiencing.  As we listen to the wisdom of the stars and planets, we are being shown that the energies of this time are not about the destruction of the planet but about the end of the world as we have known it.
We are being guided through a profound time of death and rebirth and being ushered into a New Age and new ways of being and a new level of consciousness.  The turbulence of this time is about the labor pains of the Earth and of our global community as we move through the “messiness” of this new birth.
The August solar eclipse was a wake up call for all of us (and especially for us here in the United States where it was visible in its fullness.)  The energy of the eclipse located on the star Regulus (the heart of Leo the Lion) was calling all of us to live from the heart with courage. We need to no longer live from our minds but open and expand our hearts.
Our Galactic Center, the heart of our universe, is channeling powerful energies towards our Sun and our solar system.  These energies are changing our DNA, transforming our Earth and moving us into a higher level of consciousness.
The patterns of the planets and stars are guiding us to let go of old patterns, old ways of being and outmoded thoughts and beliefs in order to move into new ways of being.
On September 20th (1:29 am EDT), we begin a new lunar cycle.  What is profound about this lunar cycle is the focus on the constellation Virgo. Virgo is one of the largest and oldest constellations in the zodiac and is the image of  the Great Mother, the sacred Goddess who births us, holds us and heals us.
The Sun and New Moon are located in the wing of the Great Mother of Virgo.  This placement indicates that something from the realm of Spirit is taking shape or form on the planet in an embodied way.
The New Moon and Sun are now opposite Chiron in the stars of Pisces, guiding us to open to the healing energies of the cosmos.  The New Moon and Sun are also in a strong aspect with Saturn that continues to lie in the sky at the feet of Ophiuchus the Healer and is close to the Galactic Center.
This New Moon is a time for healing, for opening to guidance and for trusting that we are being held through this time of transformation and rebirth.
Take time in these first few days of this lunar cycle to meditate and ask your spirit guides and healers to be with you and to support you in opening to the healing energy of this time.  Pull in the energy of the New Moon and Sun into your crown chakra, allowing these energies and the energy of the Galactic Center to flow down through your central channel and to fill you with the transformational energy of this time.  Open to the energy of Virgo and how this represents the energy of the Great Goddess. Let Her energy fill you, heal you and hold you.  Seek Her guidance and healing energy if you are feeling anxious, fearful, or overwhelmed.  Allow yourself to feel Her energy in you and surrounding you.
The constellation of Virgo is highlighted by the inner planets during this lunar cycle and across the next few months.  Jupiter has been held in this constellation for the past year and is now being birthed from the Great Mother as it moves out of the stars of Virgo. Jupiter is associated with our faith, our beliefs, our consciousness.  It is often associated with the energy of Christ or Christ consciousness.  We are being shown that it is time to be birthed anew and to move forward with faith and trust in the love and wisdom of the cosmos that is guiding us all through this time of transformation.
Across the next few months, in addition to Jupiter, the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars are all passing through and being birthed by the Great Mother of Virgo.  All of these planets represent archetypal energies and aspects of who we are.  They symbolize our sense of self (Sun), emotions (Moon), thoughts and communication (Mercury), values and relationships (Venus) and actions (Mars).
We are being shown that we are being guided to open to changes in all of these areas of our lives.  As we rest in the currents of this time and the rebirthing that is occurring, we will feel our old patterns and ways of being are dissolving and that we are moving into a new paradigm.  This new paradigm is about unity consciousness, the understanding that everything is interconnected.  It is about living in joy and being in alignment with the energies of the Earth and sky.  The new ways of being are about living from the wisdom of the heart, not from linear ways of thinking and being.  It is about being in the present moment and letting go of the pain of the past and the fears about the future.

As we move into the time of the Full Moon on October 5th (2:40 pm EDT), the Sun and Mercury are moving through the stars of Virgo while the Full Moon lies in the stars of Pisces.  Long before the constellation of Pisces became associated with Christ, these stars were associated with the image of the fish as a symbol of the Sacred Feminine and of wisdom. Pisces represents the wisdom of the deep, the energy of the ocean and the source of all that is.  As we open to the energy of Pisces, we surrender to the Oneness of all that is and the awareness that we are but a drop in the sea of unity consciousness.
The Full Moon is opposite the Sun and Mercury in the sky and is in a strong aspect to Pluto.  The Full Moon is guiding us to trust in the mystical process that we are in, to surrender to the energies that are birthing us and to open to the transformation of ourselves, our thoughts, our emotions, our relationships and our ways of being.
This would be a good time to do a releasing ceremony.  Take a ceremonial bath or shower and allow yourself to let go of fear, of old thoughts and beliefs or old patterns and ways of being.  Meditate and let your heart expand and open.
Like the caterpillar in the chrysalis, allow your old identity to dissolve. Let yourself be in the not knowing and in the mystery of this liminal time.  Trust that you are being reshaped and reformed to emerge in a new form.
At the time of the Full Moon, Mars and Venus are conjunct in the sky and rising just before the Sun in the early morning.  Mars and Venus hold the energies of the masculine and feminine, the energies of yang and yin.  Again, this is a call for integration, for moving beyond polarities and opening to unity consciousness.
This lunar cycle is a time for healing and moving into wholeness.  We are called to dissolve, to release the patterns of the past and to open to the energies of this profound rebirth.
If we open to these energies, they will carry us into the new paradigms and ways of being.  Let us remember the words of the Hopi elder:
“There is a river flowing now very fast.  It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid.  They will try to hold on to the shore.   They will feel they are torn apart and will suffer greatly.
Know the river has its destination.  The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river, keep our eyes open, and our heads above water. And I say, see who is in there with you and celebrate…
It is time to speak your Truth.
Create your community.
Be good to each other.
And do not look outside yourself for the leader.
… We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.
